About This Project

Reimagining how agreements get signed

This project focused on designing an electronic signature platform that handles document preparation, signing workflows, and secure storage for legally binding agreements.

Electronic signing has become essential for modern business, but many solutions still feel clunky. Our goal was to create an experience so smooth that signing feels effortless while maintaining the security and compliance businesses require.

The Objective

What we set out to achieve

Design an e-signature experience so intuitive that users can send, sign, and manage documents without reading a single instruction.

The platform needed to handle complex multi-party signing workflows while remaining simple enough for first-time users. Integration with existing document workflows and compliance with e-signature regulations were essential.

04
Key Responsibilities

My contributions to the project

  • 1
Document Preparation Interface Designed drag-and-drop field placement for signature, date, and text fields
  • 2
Signing Experience Design Created mobile-first signing flow with draw, type, and image signature options
  • 3
Workflow Management Designed multi-party routing with parallel and sequential signing options
  • 4
Template System Built reusable template creation and management for frequent document types
  • 5
Audit & Compliance Features Designed certificate of completion and detailed audit trail interfaces

Business Goals

Aligning design with business objectives

GOAL 01

Accelerate Deal Closure

Reduce time from document sent to signed from days to hours through streamlined signing experiences.

GOAL 02

Zero Learning Curve

Enable first-time signers to complete documents without support tickets or abandoned sessions.

GOAL 03

Enterprise Compliance

Meet ESIGN Act, UETA, and eIDAS requirements while maintaining consumer-friendly simplicity.

06
Research & Discovery

Understanding the problem space

We analyzed competitor products and interviewed both document senders and recipients to understand friction points in current e-signature solutions.

Key Research Methods

  • User Testing Tested competitor products with 20 participants
  • Workflow Analysis Mapped 10 common document workflows
  • Mobile Usage Study Analyzed mobile signing patterns and pain points
Research artifacts and signing flow analysis
07
Ideation & Problem Solving

From insights to solutions

The ideation phase focused on eliminating friction at every step: from document upload to the final signature. We prioritized a "no-learning-curve" approach.design given the growing trend of signing on phones.

Guided Signing

Step-by-step flow that highlights each field requiring action, eliminating confusion about what to do next.

Smart Field Detection

AI-powered field suggestions that auto-detect where signatures, dates, and initials should go.

One-Tap Templates

Pre-configured templates for common documents that let users send for signature in under 30 seconds.

Reflections

What this project taught me

The best signature experience is one you barely notice: sign and done.

This project reinforced that simplicity requires significant design effort. Every eliminated step and auto-detected field represents hours of design iteration and technical collaboration.

The key insight was that mobile isn't just a smaller screen: it's a different context. Signers on mobile are often on the go, requiring larger touch targets and ultra-clear progress indicators. changed our entire approach.
